If you haven’t heard of LELO, it’s time to come out from below the rock you’ve been living under. Arguably one of the most lusted after brands of the sex toy world, LELO is the epitome of sexy. You can count on LELO products being rechargeable, quiet, innovative, and beautiful. All LELO toys arrive in gorgeous packaging, complete with a user manual, silk storage bag, charger, and one-year warranty. 

The LELO Liv is part of the Femme line, which features quite a few sleek vibrators in eye-catching colors. Liv boasts velvety silicone on its curved shaft, making it completely body safe. All silicone rules do apply, such as no silicone lube. (If you wish to sterilize the Liv your only option is wiping with a 10% bleach solution.) Below the silicone is a simple stainless steel band, and then the white plastic base. The base features the standard LELO control pad which lights up to signal charging status or setting changes. If you plan on traveling with your Liv, the ingenious folks over at LELO have incorporated a locking system into their vibrators. To lock, simply hold down the center of the round control pad for 5 seconds (same to unlock) and you won’t have to worry about your suitcase or purse beginning to vibrate at inopportune times.

Like other LELO vibrators, Liv features various vibration patterns and strengths. You can cycle through vibration patterns using the up and down arrows located on the top and bottom of the control pad. The + and – signs, located on the left and right sides of the control pad, control strength of the vibrations, as well as turn Liv on and off. The great thing about the LELO Liv, as well as various other LELO vibrators, is that you have the ability to independently control the strength of each and every vibration pattern.

While charging, the light around the control pad on the Liv will slowly blink. Once fully charged, the light will emit a steady white glow. To indicate that the battery is running low, the light turns red, as opposed to the normal white. Neat, right? Charging generally takes around 2 hours, and will provide you with 2 hours of continuous use. The charge will hold for about a month if the Liv hasn’t been used.

So how does the Liv hold up against the flawless reputation of its brand? The answer is simple… the Liv fits right in with the greatness that is LELO. Don’t let its whisper-quiet motor fool you, the Liv packs a punch for such a petite and unassuming little thing. (It’s safe to say that it doesn’t come close to the strength of a Hitachi, but then again, not much does.) While the curve of the shaft does provide for some light g-spotting, the Liv is no Gigi or Ella. However, the Liv is better suited for thrusting than the Gigi, so if that’s your thing, you’ve now met your match. The Liv is great for both vaginal and clitoral stimulation, so play around and find out what works best for  you. Honestly, you just really can’t go wrong with LELO.

The Tantus Protouch- a simple sex toy with a variety of uses. What could you classify the Protouch as, you ask? The answer could be number of things, like dildo, vibrator, prostate stimulator, or even butt plug. This simple little toy is slightly more complex than it seems.

The Protouch was designed to mimic the “come-hither” motion of a finger, meant to stimulate the g-spot or prostate. It has a unique shape, with its bulbous shaft and widened ridge towards the base. Since the Protouch is silicone, it’s great for anal play and can be sterilized by boiling, running through the dishwasher (top rack, no soap), or wiping with a 10% bleach solution. The Protouch is produced in three colors; pink, a deep maroon, and the always classic black. There is a hole in the base, which fits the included one-speed, watch battery operated bullet. The silicone is extremely smooth and shiny, and the body of the toy is fairly flexible, similar to the Tantus Ripple.

So how does the Protouch perform? Unfortunately, it was a bit of a miss for me. The Protouch was just too flexible to successfully stimulate my g-spot. The widened ridge takes away from the overall insertable length of the toy, making thrusting a bit of an inconvenience. I had hopes that it would fare better for prostate stimulation, so I handed it to my partner and asked for a report back about what he thought. He had been wanting to try vibration during prostate stimulation, so I figured this would be right up his alley (alley being his ass, I suppose).

After he had his date with the Protouch, I prodded him with questions. He seemed to like it slightly more than I did, although he was on the fence. In his own words “it’s nice if you can get it where you want it, but it’s hard to keep it there”. Once again, the flexibility seemed to be a problem. He could get it to stimulate his prostate, but thrusting was out of the question  because the curved end of the shaft would spin around, partly due to his lubed up fingers.

While the Protouch didn’t work so well for me or my partner, I could see it working better for women who don’t like girthy toys or men who want light prostate stimulation without any thrusting. To put it simply, the Protouch is a great concept with a medicore execution. I probably would have liked it better if it didn’t have the large ridge in the middle or was made from stiffer silicone.
